Program Description

Vera Court Neighborhood's Center Life as a Boy program is a mentorship program designed for boys in 3rd-5th grade. This program connects elementary age boys and positive male mentors during weekly programming.

Participants in the program develop social skills, confidence, and character through weekly discussions on leadership, civic engagement, health and fitness, character building, life skills, cultural awareness, sportsmanship and career exploration. Every other weekend the group attend a variety of field trips with mentors from local groups such as the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, UW  and Madison College volunteers, community volunteers and past program participants. Field trips include trips to local sporting events, bowling, local parks, mini golf, batting cages, swimming, Dane County Farmers Market and much more.

The program meets every Thursdays from 2:30-5:30 pm and every other Saturday morning (times vary according to scheduled field trip). Participants must attend the Thursday discussion piece to be eligible to attend the Saturday field trip.
