Junior Leader Development Program

Rutabaga Outdoor Programs

Are you looking for a fun and rewarding experience this summer gaining leadership skills while working with kids? Consider volunteering with our Junior Leader Development Program! The Junior Leader program is a great way for teens to spend their summer gaining leadership experience on the water.

As a Junior Leader you will:
-Develop your canoe, kayak and stand up paddling skills
-Expand and improve your leadership skills
-Shadow Rutabaga instructors and assist with our classes
-Learn to teach and share your knowledge of paddling with others
-Positively influence the lives of youth
-Work with diverse audiences.
-Learn responsibility
-Gain valuable life experience

We ask that Junior Leader volunteers are able to commit a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer work from June-August.

If you are interested in working with kids, teaching, or the outdoors, this is the perfect place to gain some experience and training. And, it could lead to a job with Rutabaga Outdoor Programs in the future! Come be a part of an exceptional instructional team at Rutabaga!

Application and interview required for selection.
Programs meet on the back lawn of Rutabaga Paddlesports.
Courses open to those who can perform the following: -Maintain a safe body position while attempting skills and activities appropriate to the course. -Hold breath while under water and, while in the water wearing a properly fitted life jacket, be able to independently turn from a face down to a face up position keeping head above water. -Effectively communicate with instructor and other course participants. -Manage all mobility and personal care independently or with reasonable assistance.
