2021 BadgerBOTS Summer Camps

For Summer 2021, BadgerBOTS is offering both In-Person and Virtual Camp options. Our In-Person camps will follow Public Health Madison & Dane County and CDC guidelines for Campers, Staff, and Visitors. Some or all of our In-Person camps will be held out of doors. In-Person Summer Camps take place at the BadgerBOTS Robotics Education Center, located at 7615 Discovery Drive, Middleton WI.

Camps are divided into two age groups; Ages 7-9, and ages 9-12.

Summer Camps for Ages 9-12

LEGO Robotics on Mars

$475 - Ages 9-12 - In-Person Instruction - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

The Mars Perseverance rover has us wondering, "How do robots work on Mars?" and "How do scientists and engineers build robots for space?". Learn to design and program your own LEGO rover robot and test it at our "BadgerBOTS Space Lab" this summer.

Handheld Arcade Coding

$475 - Ages 9-12 - In-Person Instruction - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Learn to code your own video games and take them with you everywhere. Code and design games using a combination of JavaScript and block-based coding. Download your projects to a pocket-sized GameGo controller, then take them into the world and play with your friends.

Micro:bit Robotics

$475 - Ages 9-12 - In-Person Instruction - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Build a different type of agile robot that can drive, raise, follow, stop, carry, and glow using a micro:bit, a super small and very versatile computer. Write a few lines of Microsoft MakeCode or JavaScript and control servo motors for driving, LED lights, and get input from several kinds of sensors.

Extended Day - Late Pick-Up Option

$75 - Ages 7-12 - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Summer camp does not have to end at 3 pm! Campers can stay at BadgerBOTS until 5 pm. Enjoy some outdoor time in our backyard, try a "screen-free" STEM experiment or craft project, and hang out with your camp friends.

3D Printing with Tinkercad

$260 - Ages 9-12 - Virtual Instruction - 8:30 to Noon or 1:00 to 4:30 pm

Use a computer to make 2D and 3D art. Design digital artifacts using Tinkercad, then learn to use and troubleshoot a 3D printer. We'll print your favorite five designs at BadgerBOTS!

Need to have at Home: Computer OR Chromebook. Internet Connection which supports video.

Minecraft Game Modding

$260 - Ages 9-12 - Virtual Instruction - 8:30 to Noon or 1:00 to 4:30 pm

Tweak your inventory, create games like you’ve played on servers, or customize your Minecraft experience. Build your programming skills and dip your toes into game design. Play with others, learning how to keep it fun and fair, in one of our most popular camps.

Optional From BadgerBOTS: Borrow one of our Minecraft classroom accounts for the week.

Micro:bit Hacking @ Home

$285 - Ages 9-12 - Virtual Instruction - 8:30 to Noon or 1:00 to 4:30 pm

Program a micro:bit, a teeny, tiny device that attaches to sensors, motors, and other electronic components. Use the micro:bit and Microsoft MakeCode to hack projects like wearable technology, custom alarm systems, musical instruments, and fidget cubes. Upcycle household materials into micro:bit gadgets!

Coding with Artificial Intelligence

$260 - Ages 9-12 - Virtual Instruction - 8:30 to Noon or 1:00 to 4:30 pm

We find artificial intelligence in almost every aspect of modern technology, from voice commands to facial recognition to recommendations for the next video to watch or an item to purchase online. Learn to program a machine learning system and add it to your coding projects and games. Create programs to recognize images, answer voice commands, and play a game against you.

Summer Camps for 7-9 year olds

LEGO WeDo: Build, Code, Create

$475 - Ages 7-9 - In-Person Instruction - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

This is a camp for LEGO fanatics! Experiment with building using LEGO WeDo 2.0. Learn to program by building a model that responds to sound, movement, and changes in distance. Apply what you learned to make your own LEGO creations using the WeDo interface.

Digital Storyteller

Technology is becoming more critical to the way we interact and learn. Tell your own stories with games you design and code with Scratch. Have fun with a green screen and stop-motion animation to create newscasts and mini-movies.

Junior Computer Scientist

$475 - Ages 7-9 - In-Person Instruction - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Computers might be everywhere, but do you know how to spot one? How do computers work, and how do they connect? What does it mean to "code a computer?" Become a Junior Computer Scientist at BadgerBOTS this summer and learn to solve complex computing problems.
