Madison Capoeira

Capoeira is a 500-year Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that combines elements of self-defense, dance and acrobatic movements with the pulsating rhythm of live music. It has its roots in the days of forced labor in Brazil, when millions of Africans were brought from their homeland and kept in camps called “Senzalas.” It was here that Capoeira was born and became an important tool in the enslaved African and Indigenous peoples' fight for survival and ultimately, their freedom.
Keeping with the spirit of the origins of capoeira, the Madison Capoeira Group 501(c)3 is dedicated to sharing capoeira as a way to connect in community and empower adults, children, and adolescents through classes, workshops, collaborations, and performances, while improving fitness, musicality, agility, and mobility and promoting healthy habits.
Our youth instructors speak English, Spanish, and some Portuguese. For more information about classes and to register: https://www.madisoncapoeira.org/class-info
