Girl Neighborhood Power Program

Vera Court Neighborhood Center's Girl Neighborhood Power program is a broad based after school and evening leadership program for girls ages 9-14. GNP programming emphasizes academic achievement, health and fitness education, access to health care, civic engagement, healthy relationships, AODA prevention, youth leadership, and positive recreation.

The overall goal of GNP is to increase girls' success in making healthy decisions regarding school, home, community and self.  Strategies include increasing girls' opportunities to interact in a positive way with peers and adults through skill development/leadership in the areas of health, academics, life skills, community service and recreational programs.  An academic case management component requires all girls set academic goals at the beginning of each quarter.

The Elementary School Girl Neighborhood Power program meets weekly on Monday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm and Thursday afternoons from 2:30-5:30 pm.

The Middle School Girl Neighborhood Power program meets weekly on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm.

The Girl Neighborhood Power program meets occasionally on Saturday afternoons for special events. 

During the summer months the Girl Neighborhood Power program is incorporated into summer camp programming. Please see the Children's Program and Middle School Summer Camp descriptions for more information.

Vera Court Neighborhood Center requires all center participants to be registered for programming before program participation is allowed. Please contact the Girl Power Coordinator Stephanie Munoz to receive program registration forms.
The Vera Court Neighborhood Center has wheelchair access on the West side of the building. The centers public playground also has wheelchair access to all play structures. At this time the center does not have wheelchair accessible transportation.
Vera Court does not offer specific services for individuals with special needs or disabilities but does work with families on a case by case basis to see if the general services we offer work for the individual or family. Accommodations can be made on a case by case basis, please call the Girl Power Coordinator to discuss how the center can work with your family.
Drop-off transportation is provided home from Monday and Wednesday evening programs at 8:00pm. There is no pickup transportation available.
The Vera Court Neighborhood Center has 3 Spanish/English Bi-Lingual staff available from 9:00-5:30pm each day to provide communication and translation services to families. The Children's program is taught in English only but all registration materials, permission slips and general program communication is available in Spanish. Additionally the Girl Power Program Coordinator is fluent in Spanish and would be happy to provide translation and communication services to all Girl Power families.
