Kanopy Academy for Contemporary Dance and Choreography nurtures creativity, artistry and technical excellence. For ages 3-70+, all skill levels, classes are offered in creative dance for children, modern contemporary dance forms, ballet, repertory, improvisation and choreography. Kanopy2 is a performing troupe and training program for advanced dancers ages 15-26 (inquire for placement). The professional Kanopy Dance Company, a resident company of the Overture Center for the Arts, presents its Season of performances at Overture and on tour.
The Academy offers classes from September to May, Summer Session, and several week-long MIni Dance Art Camps, Dance Camps, Dance Intensive, and Guest Artist Master Workshops in the summer. The Academy’s annual all school performance gives students opportunity to dance for friends, family and the public. Kanopy Company 2 perform their own season at the Overture Center for the Arts, and from time to time, alongside Kanopy Dance Company. Adult Ensemble is a mixed level group who develop their choreographic and performance skills.
Students desiring to become professionals in the field are trained and guided. Adults and youth who study at Kanopy as an avocation improve their health, develop their talent, creativity, artistry, musicality, grow in self esteem, become not only leaders but also team players. Students are encouraged and guided to expand their own inventiveness and technical excellence through Technique and Choreography training.
